Crate Link Shelving
Ok, so everyone at some point has used a milk crate in ways other than its intended use. Let's face it, they're well designed functional containers.
My goal with this study was to find a way to bring the milk crate out of the dorm room and possibly into a modern living room... To do this I looked into creating a modular shelving unit that only required a simple connector. Part of challenge with this exercise was that even milk crates of the same size very in design and dimension.
Shown here is an early prototype link made out of steel rod. the links put a tension on the crates which creates a strong press-fit joint that doesn't require any other fasteners.
